During World War II, British soldiers stationed in North Africa discovered a simple, rugged ankle boot handcrafted by Egyptian cobblers — practical, breathable, and built for harsh terrain. Nathan Clark of the Clarks family, then serving with the Royal Army, noticed how these boots outlasted everything else the desert threw at soldiers. He brought the design back to Britain, and in 1949, the desert boot entered civilian life. It never left.
