Same Navy as Timber Navy. Completely Different Shoe.

The white sole changes everything.

Take the same rare navy blue Nubuck leather. The same hand-sewn True Moc construction. The same genuine leather lace. Put a white TR sole underneath instead of a dark one, and you have a shoe that operates in an entirely different register — lighter in feel, crisper in profile, and considerably more contemporary in the way it reads against an outfit.

This is not a minor detail. The sole is the visual base of a shoe. A dark sole grounds a shoe, makes it look settled and traditional. A white sole lifts it — optically and tonally — giving the profile a cleanliness that pushes the shoe closer to the world of leather sneakers and summer casuals than to the classic boat shoe territory the dark-soled Timber inhabits. The Timber WHBLU sits at that intersection: the craftsmanship and material quality of a proper hand-built boat shoe, with the visual lightness of something you'd put on for a warm evening out.

Navy blue leather is still the rarest element here. Almost no brand produces it in genuine full-grain Nubuck — a leather buffed on the grain side to create a fine, directional matte surface that holds colour with a depth smooth leathers cannot achieve. In direct light, the navy reads as a rich, saturated blue. In low light, it deepens toward indigo. Put a white sole under that, and you have a colour combination — navy above, white below — that has defined summer style across decades and continues to look correct without looking dated.

Built for Denim. Ready for More.

Navy blue and denim have a shared visual logic that goes beyond colour matching. They occupy the same tonal territory: cool, unpretentious, adaptable. The Timber WHBLU in raw or dark-wash denim is the obvious pairing, and it works without effort — the white sole adds just enough brightness to prevent the look from reading as too uniform.

But the white sole also opens doors the dark-sole navy does not. Against white or off-white trousers, linen shorts, or light chinos, the Timber WHBLU creates a contrast that reads as intentional and considered. The navy upper anchors the foot visually while the white sole prevents the shoe from disappearing into the background. This is the boat shoe that works from a morning coffee to a rooftop evening without needing to be reconsidered — the combination is wide enough to carry the full day.

It is also, importantly, the navy boat shoe for summer. White soles read as warm-weather appropriate in a way that dark soles sometimes do not. If the Timber Navy in dark gray is the shoe for all seasons, the Timber WHBLU is the shoe for the months when the light is long and the outfits are lighter.

Hand Sewn. Because the Seam Is the Shoe.

The Timber WHBLU is hand sewn in True Moc construction — a combination that distinguishes it from the cemented boat shoes that dominate the market at every price point.

In cemented construction, the upper and sole are glued under factory pressure. The seam at the midsole is rigid, and the shoe resists rather than accommodates the natural movement of the foot. True Moc construction works from a fundamentally different principle. The leather is cut and shaped to wrap continuously beneath the foot, curving upward and meeting the upper in a single unbroken seam — the characteristic moc-toe stitch that runs across the front of the shoe. There is no separate sole platform bonded under pressure. The leather is the structure, and the seam is hand sewn.

Hand stitching means each stitch is set with deliberate, controlled tension by a craftsperson who can feel the resistance of the leather at each specific point. The result is a seam that is tight where it needs to hold and gives where the leather needs to flex. Machine stitching cannot replicate this because the mechanism applies uniform force regardless of what the material is doing at that point. On a True Moc seam that runs across the toe — the area under the most flexion during a walking step — hand stitching is not a luxury. It is the right way to do it.

The practical payoff is immediate. The Timber WHBLU has no rigid break-in period. The True Moc construction flexes with the forefoot from the first wear, expanding under load and returning with it. The snug, sock-like fit settles to the shape of the foot within a handful of wears, after which the shoe functions almost like a slip-on — the wide collar opening, standard across the Timber range, requires barely any lace adjustment once the shoe has taken your shape.

The Genuine Leather Lace Is Not an Afterthought

The lace on the Timber WHBLU is genuine leather — and against a white sole and navy upper, it is impossible to ignore. A fabric or synthetic lace in this colour combination would read as a budget substitution. The leather lace — naturally aged, with a slightly textured finish — reads as a material continuation of the upper. It belongs to the same world as the shoe it's threading through.

Beyond aesthetics, leather laces hold their tension differently than synthetic equivalents. They do not stretch progressively through the day, so the shoe maintains its fit from the morning to the evening without requiring re-lacing. They also age in sync with the upper, taking on the same slow patina rather than degrading ahead of the leather and looking worn before the shoe does.

After the first few wears and one or two adjustments, the lace settles. The Timber WHBLU transitions into a slip-on at that point — navy leather and white sole, no hands required.

Under Foot: White TR, Herringbone, and Serious Cushioning

The white TR (Thermoplastic Rubber) sole carries the herringbone anti-skid pattern that is a defining feature of the Timber range — a geometry that has been part of boat shoe design since Paul Sperry cut it into his first sole in 1930. TR's performance properties remain unchanged regardless of sole colour: it holds flexibility in cold conditions, resists heat deformation in warm ones, and has a significantly longer service life than standard rubber or EVA compounds. The herringbone provides reliable traction on wet and smooth surfaces alike.

White soles require some care — they are honest about contact with rough surfaces in a way dark soles are not. The trade-off is the visual openness they bring to the shoe's profile, and for the right wearer, that is a trade-off worth making completely.

The shoe is unlined. Nubuck directly against the foot manages moisture efficiently — drawing sweat away and releasing it — keeping the internal environment cool through extended wear. Designed to be worn without socks, and the soft finished leather at the collar confirms it.

Inside, the cushioning is a two-layer system: latex beneath for structural resilience that restores shape between steps, and memory foam above for active pressure redistribution across the footbed. The heel bears the additional weight of this system — the point where the impact of walking translates into the ankle and knee. After a full day on your feet, the Timber WHBLU is still the shoe you are standing in, not the shoe you are enduring.

The Honest Summary

  • Leather: Full Grain Nubuck, Navy Blue — rare in genuine leather; matte, directional surface; holds colour with ink-toned depth
  • Sole: White TR, herringbone anti-skid — lifts the shoe's visual profile; performs reliably across temperature zones
  • Lace: Genuine leather lace — holds tension without stretching; ages with the upper
  • Construction: Hand-sewn True Moc — leather wraps beneath the foot in a continuous seam; no cemented join; 40% more leather than standard construction
  • Fit: Snug and sock-like; expands to the foot's shape within first few wears; functions as a slip-on once settled
  • Lining: Unlined — superior breathability; no-sock wear comfortable
  • Cushioning: Latex + memory foam, heel-weighted — reduces ankle and knee stress; remains effective through all-day wear
  • Warranty: 3 months against manufacturing defects (stitch and sole strength)

Who This Shoe Is For

The Timber WHBLU is the boat shoe for someone who dresses in cooler tones and wants a shoe that brings energy rather than weight to the bottom of an outfit. It works for the person who lives in denim and wants their footwear to sharpen the look rather than simply anchor it. It works for summer dressing where a white sole reads as seasonally appropriate and visually decisive.

If you already own the Timber in navy with a dark sole, this is not a duplicate — it is a different shoe for different days. The dark sole is quieter and more versatile across seasons. The white sole is louder in the best possible sense: it finishes an outfit rather than disappearing into it.

Warranty: 3 Months warranty against manufacturing defects. The warranty covers stitch & sole strength. The warranty does not cover wear and tear of leather or sole due to rough usage.

Classic Boat Shoes

In 1930 Paul Sperry was walking his dog in American winter when he noticed that while he was slipping but his dog could comfortably walk on icy surface. On closer look he realized that his dog’s paws had some herringbone kind of pattern so he cut a similar pattern in his sole and realized that he had better grip.

This is how first set of boat shoe came into existence. The modified boat shoe was done in rubber sole and was very popular among sailors. The Oil-pull-up leathers used in these shoes had water repellant qualities. The bigger opening made it easy to get in and out of the shoe; you could virtually use them like slippers.

TZARO boat shoes follow all the four cardinal principles

  • they are made with true moccasin technique
  • the upper is stitched into the sole [and not pasted]
  • the opening is bigger than driving shoe
  • they come with soles with herringbone patterns for extra grip
  • are made with thick premium leathers – oil-pull-up & nubuck.

Boat Shoe Made with Classical Principles

These boat shoes follow all the classical principles of boat shoe. They come with antiskid sole, have wider opening and come in MOCTOE construction. Thick unlined genuine leather gives it long life and also great ventilation

Bigger Opening

The bigger opening is classical trait of boat shoes, it makes getting in and out of the shoe lot easier. Some people describe boat shoes as “looks like a shoe but is as convenient as a slipper”.

True Moccasin Construction

The leather wraps like an envelope below the feet; this construction technique gives the shoes an amazing ability to expand and contract with every step you take in these which adds to its comfort. This technique is somewhat rarely used as it consumes more leather than usual cemented construction. It’s an amazing experience to use shoes made with MOCTOE technique.

Anti-Skid Long Life TR Sole

These boat shoes are made with TR sole with herringbone pattern which gives them greater grip in outdoor conditions. TR sole also gives a stable performance across temperature zones [works well in Colder as well as Hot Geographies]. This sole will last well over the years [even if you use them daily].

What is a Boat Shoe?

Boat Shoe is particular kind of moccasin which has wider opening giving it an open shoe feel to it. This is usually made with softer and thicker leather and is usually unlined. The shoes are made with True-Moccasin construction technique.

What is True-Moccasin construction Technique?

True Moccasin construction refers to a technique where the leather swings like an envelope all around the feet. Boat shoes have a snug fit or they fit like socks which means that the leather needs to expand when you walk (the muscles expand when the pressure is on the big toe area). Only true moccasin construction allows for this expansion. This technique consumes 40% more leather but the comfort is unmatchable.

What is TPR material?

Thermoplastic Rubber is a special grade material which has qualities of both rubber (in terms of abrasion flexibility) and long life of Special Grade Plastic like PU or EVA. Soles made of this material have a longer life in both cold hot climates.

What's the difference between Faux Leather Shoes and Genuine Leather Shoes?

Faux Leather shoes do not breathe and feet will become hot from inside. Well-made genuine leather shoes (with genuine leather lining) will keep your feet cool even after 10 hours of usage in 40 degree Celsius zones. Genuine leather has 50 times longer life than Faux Leather Shoes.
