A wallet leather can’t be very thick, otherwise it will be very difficult to fold it in the center. Usually wallet leathers are thinned by a process called skiving to convert them to needed thickness. Thinner leather is certainly weaker than a thicker leather. To counter this, wallets have an interlining material on the inside. This interlining layer ensures that leather does not get overstretched and it adds to the life of wallet.
