What translates into a good belt?

Belt is a functional and a very important accessory. There are 5 dimensions to a great belt

• Quality and texture of leathers as well colors used on both the sides
• Buckle quality, design and its turning mechanism
• Craftsmanship or the process of making the belt
• Quality of pasting – as formal belts rarely have stitches on the edges
• Finish of the Belt's edges

A reversible belt has usually three layers of leather – outside layer, inside layer [which is not visible] and the reverse layer. All these 3 are combined to create the necessary thickness of the belt. In a reversible belt since both the front and back is usable hence both of these leathers need to be of harness family for it to be durable. The special finish textured leathers make the belt distinct but are hard to get and are expensive. The idea in a reversible belt is to use two textures of the same color [so that it comes across as two different belts] or use two distinct colors for it to go with more shoes. The reversible belts are good addition to the collection. Since the layers of leathers are pasted together – the quality of pasting matters. Usually the adhesive and machines used to paste the leathers is important. The machines dry the glue as well as apply necessary pressure to ensure that pasting is proper. Some of the specialized machines are used to taper the edges by applying differential pressure to edge of the belt which gives a dome shaped finish. The edges are usually smoothened and multiple layers of fillers and colors are used to give it a great finish. The belt buckle is the most visible part of the buckle. A good buckle means a great finish, world class metal and a very high-quality plating to ensure that the color of the buckle doesn’t fade over the years.
